Torres eleventh in race one as Smith takes pole in WorldSSP

28.09.2019 – Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions Kawasaki rider Jordi Torres recovered from 20th place on the grid after a wet Tissot-Superpole qualifying session in the Superbike class to finish Race One in 11th position.

After finding a damp and then a wet track surface on Friday at Magny Cours, during free practice, Jordi was hoping for a dry Superpole session. His hopes were dashed by the appearance of rain at just the wrong time and he had to settle for 20th place on the grid – making him the last rider away.

On a basically dry track he caught and passed several riders as the race unfolded to its full distance of 21-laps, ending up 11th. He moved into 14th place after just five laps.

His latest points score puts him 11th in the overnight championship standings, with two more chances to score again tomorrow. He faces a ten-lap Tissot-Superpole race at 11.00 on Sunday morning and then a second 21-lap race at 14.00 in the afternoon.

On a great day for the Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions WorldSSP riders Kyle Smith scored the first pole position of his career, in wet conditions, with Ayrton Badovini finally third in Superpole. Both riders earned important front row starts for Sunday’s 19-lap WorldSSP race.

Jordi Torres #81 – Rider:
“The race was not bad and to be honest we could only improve during the race because to be worse than we started is impossible! In the race in the first laps we did not have too much confidence to push right at the beginning, but lap by lap I took more confidence. From the middle to the end we had very good pace. But it is not enough yet to catch, for example, Eugene Laverty. In the last lap we can catch Sandro Cortese but we had too much distance in the middle. We ended up with a good feeling and good pace so we will see what happens tomorrow. We need to take that feeling again and see what happens. Also tomorrow in the sprint race we need to improve there because in the first laps we are slower and we do not catch so much feedback in the first laps. So we lose some pace. We are in France – so we need to see the sun in at least one race!”

Lucio Pedercini – Team Manager:
“In Superbike the Superpole session in the morning was not so good for our chances in the race, as Jordi had to start from the end of the grid. The start was not so easy for him but the lap times were not bad and the end of the race was good for us. So it was a positive end to the day, not so bad in 11th position. In Supersport Kyle had everything! Fast laps, a cash and then the Superpole win. Everybody knows both Ayrton and Kyle are very fast riders in the wet but I also think that for WorldSSP we have changed the direction and maybe we have found the solution. In dry conditions we were also not so far away.”
