24.10.2019 – Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions WorldSBK rider Jordi Torres ended the first practice sessions under the floodlights at Losail in 16th place in the timesheets and looking for more push exiting corners to allow him to get back to his very best level.
The final round of the WorldSBK season is always a culture shock, not least because action starts on Thursday and not the more usual Friday, and almost all the Superbike sessions are held in the evening. The desert night is illuminated by thousands of powerful floodlights around the 5.380km track, which the riders always say is very much like riding in the daytime.
Finding a relatively sweet-handling Ninja ZX-10RR race package on his Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR, even from the first session, Jordi just felt he needed more exit push in the slower corners to make a significant improvement in his best lap times.
The next track action for Torres will be in FP3, to be held in the afternoon on Friday, and then Tissot-Superpole qualifying takes place at 17.30 Qatar time. Race One, over 17-laps, will be held at 20.00 hrs local time on Friday, which is one hour ahead of CET.
Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions FIM Supersport World Championship competitor Ayrton Badovini ended up third fastest after the first day, despite a crash in the FP1 session. Kyle Smith, Ayrton’s team-mate, was ninth fastest and intends to move up the rankings in tomorrow’s Superpole qualifying session. The final WorldSSP race of 2019 will take place on Saturday 26th October.
Jordi Torres #81 – Rider:
“Today was a bit difficult for us because I felt all day that I did not have the power we expected. In the high RPM I have enough power always but between eight to 12,000rpm I do not feel enough. We tried something with the mapping but I feel we did not solve it so much today. When you feel slow it is difficult to run fast. You try too much in other points and can make mistakes. Tomorrow we need to use today’s experience and solve this little problem, to give me more power during the exit of the corners, in the first metres. The chassis appears to work very well and I am sure tomorrow we will improve a little more. The track itself is OK but sometimes you do not feel the front tyre as much”.
Lucio Pedercini – Team Manager:
“The first day in Qatar and it is always a special one, because of the floodlights and the race weekend goes from Thursday to Saturday. We hoped for more in Superbike but we will work tonight to find improvements for qualifying and then the first race on Friday. In Supersport it is great to continue the progress we have shown in the last few rounds. Third place after free practice for Ayrton is good and Kyle is also inside the top ten”.
