06.09.2019 – Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions rider Jordi Torres took part in the first two free practice sessions at the Portuguese round of the WorldSBK Championship today, as the series returned to competitive action after the long summer break.
The sunny re-start in Portugal saw track temperatures rise throughout the day at a venue the entire Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions squad had tested at only two weeks before.
Compared to the track conditions evident at the tests Torres found a very different level of feel and feedback from the circuit in the first Free Practice session today. He was unfortunate to fall early on, losing valuable track time as his bike was repaired.
In FP2, despite the hotter track temperatures that reduced outright grip in the afternoon, Jordi went on to set his fastest lap of the day and ended up 15th overall.
On Saturday there is one more FP3 session before Tissot-Superpole, and finally a 20-lap opening race at 14.00hrs on Saturday afternoon, local time. Two more races, the ten-lap Tissot-Superpole sprint and then the second full distance race, will take place on Sunday 8 September.
Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions FIM Supersport World Championship riders Ayrton Badovini and Kyle Smith restarted their seasons in a positive way, with Badovini a fine fourth and Smith ninth after two Free Practice sessions. Superpole on Saturday will now determined the final grid slots for the 18-lap race on Sunday.
Jordi Torres #81 – Rider:
“After our recent test at Portimao it has been difficult so far this weekend because I felt a different bike underneath me. I think it was because last week they had cars running on the track and they have maybe laid down different rubber. It was difficult with the front because when I tried to enter the corners it is easy to make a little mistake and have a crash. It was very easy to do this. Today we tried to put back the same performance on the bike that we had in the test but in the afternoon I understood that we need to be able to find another way to find the same performance We will work for this tomorrow”.
Lucio Pedercini – Team Owner:
“We went back into full race mode today but the crash in the second lap this morning was not so good for our preparations. This afternoon it became very hot but the ultimate performance was better. We will work again to find more improvements tomorrow before race one in the afternoon”.
