13.07.2019 – Jordi Torres and his Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions Kawasaki team found set-up improvements today that allowed Jordi to compete with some top official riders and take a season best sixth place in Race One at Laguna Seca.
Before the challenge of a 25-lap race one Torres had to prove that the machine set-up changes made by his technical crew overnight would work well and he did this in some style. He was seventh in combined practice after FP3 this morning and then qualified sixth in Superpole at the intense and undulating 3.660km long circuit in California.
After the green light in Race One Torres was a confident sixth and then fifth after Alvaro Bautista crashed out. Jordi was closing in on Tom Sykes for fourth at one point but eventually he had to drop his pace as his rear tyre had given its best.
Jordi was only caught in the final five laps by the official Yamaha of Alex Lowes, and eventually finished sixth – the best result of the year so far, and achieved in a long race held in warm and dry conditions.
Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions now faces two more WorldSBK races in the USA, on Sunday 14 July, before the summer break begins. On Sunday morning there is the ten lap Tissot-Superpole ‘sprint’ race, and then the final 25-lap Race Two.
Jordi Torres #81 – Rider:
“Today was not bad and at this kind of track, where the corners are very close together, we are at not too much of a disadvantage. In the final practice session we made some good adjustments to be more or less fast in the race. We were fast in FP3 and Superpole as well. The direction we worked in was very good so in the end this great result was for the mechanics and the team more than for the rider. During the race I need to learn to be faster when the rear grip starts to drop, I do not ride so too well when that happens. I need to change my lines to have more performance on the exits but we took away a lot of information for tomorrow. We will see how we are after tomorrow’s races but we are happy, we have to be happy today!”.
Lucio Pedercini – Team Owner:
“The best race of the year for us, so we are happy, especially because the morning practice session and Superpole were also good. Maybe now we have to find something more for the end of the race, with the rear tyre performance. So tomorrow we will try to do a little step more, but today we are happy – absolutely! Well done to everyone in the team”.
