14.07.2019 – At the end of a rewarding weekend of racing in the USA Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions and WorldSBK rider Jordi Torres left with three strong points scores, and the best result so far in a single race.
After Torres finished sixth in Race One on Saturday, for his and the team’s best showing all season, Sunday’s offered two WorldSBK races, – one planned over ten laps and then a final full 25-lap race.
In the opening Sunday contest, held under clear skies, the Tissot Superpole race had to be stopped and restarted after a crash involving two riders on the entry to The Corkscrew. Torres got going in a race for the second time in 20 minutes and after the eventual eight-lap race he finished eighth, and only 0.114 seconds from seventh place.
The Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions staff were determined to put on a final good display before the start of the long summer break. Eighth place in Race Two delivered more valuable championship points and the third strong Laguna Seca race in succession for all involved.
Now Jordi is 12th in the overall standings but only three points from tenth place after a positive weekend at the undulating and intense 3.660km long circuit located between Monterey and Salinas in California.
Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions will now have a break in full race action until Portimao early September, but a two-day test at that same venue in late August will restart their preparations for the final four rounds of the year. It will also allow evaluation of development and set-up ideas away from the pressures of trying to score championship points.
Jordi Torres #81 – Rider:
“The weekend has been not bad because we were always inside the top ten but maybe today we had some difficulties. In the short race, for example, I made a bad start in the second restart. In the short races this is the most important thing. I could not overtake Loris Baz and also lost Lowes and Haslam at the start. In Race Two I started well but we had some problems with the front; I do not know why. We used the same tyre, the same pressure, the same things, but it tried to close the front on corner exits. It was difficult to manage this. I tried to change my riding style to use the rear tyre more but I think everybody found the rear on the limit. Our best weekend I think and we are quite happy to start our ‘holidays’ this way. We were very constant and the results were there.”
Lucio Pedercini – Team Owner:
“We are happy today and we tried to improve all weekend. Jordi, race by race, is learning more. He must change his style a little bit, step-by-step. That process is beginning to work, for sure. Now there is the summer break and we will try some more things in the tests at Portimao, in August. We want to try some different things and also let Jordi make more steps to be even closer. But for sure we are happy with this round, our best of the year.”
